Door to Door Organics Review plus Coupon Code

Door to Door Organics provided me with a gift card to try out their service

I have been a proponent of healthy eating for the last several years. The desire to lose weight for various reasons and issues tied down to the treatment of animals for consumption eventually lead me to not eating pork or beef and instead focus on eating whole fruits and vegetables with minimal processing. The last year or so became an adventure on looking for sources of organic, wholesome food.

Although organic food is starting to become present in the mainstream supermarkets, it is still not as widespread as one would hope. Often, my wife and I would shop once a week in different locations as one store might have an organic version of the food that the other might not have. This pattern of shopping continued on until we happen to stumble on a website called Door to Door Organics in Facebook, they are a company that deliver fresh, organic food, straight to your door. We contacted them and decided to try their service.

The first step in making your order is to check if the service applies to your area. Next you have to pick the size from little, small, medium to large box of either all vegetables, fruits or a combination of both. There are descriptions of the amount of food in each sizes to give you an approximate picture of how long each box will last throughout the week.  There is also an option to substitute certain food items if you desire. As an option, you can also add other food items for an additional price, these ranges from dairy, meat, bread and pretty much anything that you would want in your pantry. Its important to note that most of these items are organic, non-gmo and are locally sourced. You can arrange the frequency of your deliveries to weekly or bi weekly. The subscription can be put on hold or even cancelled so there are absolutely no commitments.

After 2 weeks of using this service, I have to say that their service is excellent and the products, amazing. The first time we opened the box, there was instant ooh's and aah's from my kids and I. The fruits and vegetables were fresh and clean, the outside of the box was also clearly labeled with the items inside. Due to the availability of some of the food items, once in a while they will not be able to get a particular fruit or vegetable in your order and a note stating that will be present in the box as well as crediting back the missed item in your account.

Door to Door Organics is a great idea if you want to eat better and healthier (also a great way to introduce kids to fruits and vegetables that won't be otherwise available in your regular grocery store.), the fact that the actual delivery is free, along with freshness of the food items delivered speaks volumes to the quality of their service. If you want to try them out, here's a coupon code for $10 off your first order: LUV2SAVE1415T

These are what my kids has to say:

Olivia (7 yrs old) : "I love eating pomegranates! ( First time she, or anyone of us, tried it)"
Emma (5 yrs old) : "The tangerines explode with flavor in your mouth!"
Sophia (3 yrs old) : "Bananas are yummy!"

First week we ordered the Medium Mix Box

Second Week: We ordered the Large Mix Box

Disclosure: I received product sample(s) mentioned above from the company or representing PR for free. NO other payment was given. This is my honest opinion, yours may be different. This post may contain affiliate link.

Friday Favorites: Door to Door Organics and More

Door to Door Organics - We received our first box yesterday. We ordered their medium mix veggie and fruits box (for free for blog review). So far we are really happy with their service and will continue to order weekly or biweekly. The medium box is $46. I think it's definitely worth it since everything is all organic. The tangerines were sooooo good. My girls keep saying it's the best orange they tasted. It was so juicy and sweet. We will be posting our thorough review soon. But for now if you want to check them out here's a coupon code for $10 off your first order: LUV2SAVE1415T

I love Kidorable! They have the best rain gears! You can check out my review HERE and enter the giveaway!

Trader Joe's Organic Hot Cocoa Mix - I was so excited when I saw this in their store. My girls love hot cocoa mix but we stopped buying them because they were not organic.

Juicy Platters - We usually buy halal from the Halal Guys in NYC. We recently tried the one from Juicy Platter and surprisingly it's pretty good..maybe even just as good from the Halal Guys.

DIY Sharpie Ceramic Mug - these turned out so cute! Olivia made one for her teacher to give this Christmas and Emma made one for me.

Friday Favorites: Moda VoxBox and Honest Company

Happy Friday! This week's favorites....

Pumpkin Bread - I made this a few days ago. I have been looking for pumpkin bread recipe that does not use a lot of ingredients. I like my food simple with very little ingredients as possible because I like to use organic ingredients. I think this is the best one I've tried. My girls loved it. I will be posting the recipe soon.

Honest Company - I have been an Honest Company customer for months now. I love their products. I order their monthly Essential Bundle a month for $35.95 which consists of 5 products of your choice. This month I tried their Organic Lip Balm Trio and Organic Breath Easy Rub. My girls love the lip balms. I love the Breath Easy Rub. It's just like Vicks but it's organic and smells much better.

Influenster - Have you heard of them? I recommend signing up. They send you products to try and review for FREE. I received my first Moda VoxBox from them a couple of weeks ago.

Rimmel London Scandaleyes Rockin’ Curves Mascara - This is my favorite product in the box. I like the shape of the applicator. It makes my lashes look full and curvy.
Rimmel London Moisture Renew Lipstick - this lipstick is ok. I just don't like the color I received. I don't like wearing pink lipstick.
Rimmel London Moisture Renew Lip Liner - honestly I don't like this one. You can't even tell you have it on or if it makes a difference wearing one or without.
Puffs SoftPack - these tissues are really soft. I also like the packaging. The design is cute and soft plastic which can easily fit in my diaper bag.
JERGENS® Ultra Healing® Extra Dry Skin Moisturizer - this is a great hand lotion. It's good to have with you at all times especially now the weather is getting cold which means your hand is prone to dryness. I know mine does. It keeps my hand feeling soft and not greasy. I also like the scent.
resource® Natural Spring Water - This taste just like water. But it's good to know that resource is a sustainably sourced 100% Natural Spring Water from carefully selected sources with naturally occurring electrolytes for a clean, refreshing taste. resource comes in a bottle made with 50% recycled plastic* and is 100% recyclable.
Hair Food Moisture Hair Mask - This is my second favorite product in the box. It smells really good and makes my hair feels really soft after shower. I also like that it's Paraben Free and Minieral Oil Free.
Swiss Miss® Simply Cocoa - I love this. It has no artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives. It has only 5 simple ingredients. It would be perfect if it was organic.

Healthy After School Snack: Banana and Peanut Butter

Looking for healthy after school snack? Try banana and peanut butter. Simple yet so good, not to mention healthy. This is my girls' favorite after school snack. If your child is allergic to peanut you can substitute it with other butter spread (almond, sunflower).

We also like it with Peanut Butter & Co spreads. They are not organic but they are nonGMO.

How to Clean Your Stove Top - Chemical Free

The best way to keep your stove clean is to clean it right after you use it but I don't always do that. Sometimes I wait when I can't stand it anymore before cleaning it. This is why it gets this way....

How to Clean:

I use one part vinegar and one part dish detergent. I prefer Dawn to use. I think it works better than other dish detergent. But since I ran out I'm using Palmolive. As long as you don't use those cheap $1 kind from dollar store you should be fine. You mix it all together and put it in a spray bottle or in a bowl.

Spray it all over or you can pour it. Let it soak for a few minutes. The longer you wait the better. I usually wait 15 or half an hour so it's easier to scrub.

Homemade Hard Lotion for Eczema and Recipe

My daughter Emma have had eczema since she was a baby. I've tried different kinds of organic or all natural  lotions but nothing really worked. Her eczema was really bad. It was itchy and red. She would bleed sometimes from scratching.

A few months ago I decided to try making hard lotion. After using it for only a few days you could right away tell her eczema was getting better. After a few weeks using it, her eczema is almost gone. The dryness still comes back if she doesn't put it on for days. I just have to keep reminding her to put it on everyday. So far she's been really good at remembering. She loves rubbing it all over her body.

Here is the before and after picture. The middle picture was taken after one week using the hard lotion. The bottom picture was taken recently.

This is the second time I made them. The first time I made them I only made a small batch. I've given a few and my whole family use them so they didn't last very long. This time I made a lot. Another great thing about this lotion is that it only has 3 ingredients and they are so easy to make.

Ingredients: These ingredients should be available in any health food store but I bought mine from Amazon. Use ONE PART EACH. If you are using 4 oz shea butter then you have to use 4 oz for the coconut oil and beeswax. I made 16 oz or 1 pound each.

Shea Butter

Coconut Oil

Beeswax

Combine all ingredients

Use a double boiler to melt it. I used a mixing bowl and placed it on top of a boiling water.

Once it is all  melted you can pour it on any molds. I used muffin and mini muffin pan. You can also use ice cubes trays.

Once they are hard you can store it in a ziplock bags. Make sure you store them in a cool place.
