I did another run of similac advance formula in Pathmark the other day. Remember I had 60 coupons! I think I have about 15 left now. Well anyways I purchased 6 this time together with my groceries. This is one of those days that cashiers gives you a hard time for using coupons. They only let me use 4 $2 off coupons. I wanted to return the other 2 but my 2 year old daughter was with me getting cranky.
6 Similac = 23.17
-$8 (4- $2 off coupons)
= 15.17 added to my formula expenses!
I'll be taking pictures soon of my stockpiles!
Total Formula Spent : $93.49

Pathmark Trip 7/31
Today is the last day for the baby bucks cycle. I needed $25 dollars to get $15 Baby Bucks. So I went today to get 6 more Similac concetrated cans. Spent 11.17 after my $2 off coupons, but I got $15 baby bucks to spend next time. I'll be using it this week for grocery. So that's minus 3.83 to my formula expenses. (I'm counting the Baby Bucks as CASH.)
Stockpile
39 - 13 oz similac concentrated cans
2 - 1QT Ready to feed Similac
1 - 12.9 oz Similac Powder
If you were to purchase them regular price I would pay 167.31 for the concetrated cans, $12.98 for the ready to feed, and about $13 for the powder. It would cost me 193.29! I saved 60% so far!! I'll post pictures next time.
Total Formula Spent = $78.32

Another Pathmark Trip 7/28
I think this is my 4th trip to Pathmark to buy similac concetrated cans. I bought another 5 cans.
5 cans 4.29 each = 21.45
5 $2 coupons = 10
=11.45 added to my formula expenses
Total Formula Spent = $69.12
While I was there I picked up two 8th Continent Soy Milk chocolate flavored (other flavored are on sale too). It's on sale for 2.69 and there is a printable coupon FOUND HERE (need to register and you can print 2). So I only paid .69 for each.

Pathmark Trip

I gave up with Rite Aid. There is no way they are getting more similac advance in the store. So I decided to try the grocery store. Today I went to Pathmark to see how much I would spend and save with the coupons. I can't have those coupons go wasted. It's like wasting my $12.39 cents!
I was in the baby aisle calculating my cost per can for about 15 minutes.
Ready to feed bottle cost -6.29
Buy 16 bottles (not all the same transaction of course) = $100.64
Minus $32 coupons
= 68.64
I will get back $15 for baby bucks = 53.64 or 3.35 per bottle. It's not $2 each but at least I'm saving about 50%.
I was ready to buy 5 bottles until I saw a lady picked up those concentrated cans for $4.29 each. Then it hit me! I will save even more if I use my $2 off for those cans. I never used concentrated with my first daughter so I was not sure if they are the same amount as the ready to feed bottle once it's mixed with water.
I wonder what was the lady thinking when I asked her if you add water to the concentrated cans, if it's the same amount as the ready to feed bottle. She's probably thinking why I'm buying them too soon and the baby is not even out yet or she's thinking I'm pregnant again and I have a baby at home!
So here is my calculation:
If I buy 24 cans = 102.96
-$48 coupons
= 54.96 - $15 baby bucks
= 39.96 or 1.66 per can!!!! or about $100 for 60 cans.
I'm hoping that will last 3 months so I don't have to worry not getting paid enough during my maternity leave. You're probably wondering what if the baby will not take the similac formula. I would be wasting money. No, Not really. I have a couple of friends that are pregnant, I'm sure they will be happy to take this from me. And I am still hoping to breast feed, atleast for the first few months. But I just want to make sure I have something just in case breast feeding doesn't work out.
I bought only 5 cans today. I still have more than a month until the coupons expire. I hate going to the register with more than 5 of the same coupons. Cashiers for some reason hates that.
5 concentrated cans = 21.45
- $10 coupons
= 11.45
Spent : $11.45
Total Spent : 36.03

My Guilty Trip at Rite Aid

I've been going to Rite Aid everyday to see if they received new inventories for Similac. Remember I have 60 coupons to use! They have other kinds left but not the regular Similac Advance. So I decided to buy the 2 bottles left from one Rite Aid even though I will not get the deal that I was hoping for since I will not be able to use the coupon for $5 off $25 purchased.
But it turned out to be a better deal. Here's what I bought:
2 similac ready to feed = 10
1 similac powder 12.9 oz = 13.19
1 aveeno lotion = 7.79 (I needed this for the J&J rebate, I only needed $6 more to qualify for GC)
my total would have been = 30.98
minus my coupons:
-$6 (3 similac coupons)
-5/25 coupons
- $2 off aveeno
=17.98
Here's the guilty part. My aveeno coupon will not scan. She tried a few times but the register will not take it. I told her never mind I don't want the aveeno. So she took it off and gave me a total for $12.19. When I left the store, I realized she should have taken the $5 off also since my total is no longer 25 dollars, instead $23.19. So now I've been feeling guilty and afraid to go back to that store!
Spent : $12.19
Total Formula Spent: $24.58

Formula Expenses
Did you ever wondered the yearly cost of formulas?? I've researched the Internet and there's no exact amount since prices varies due to different brands of formulas and it matters if it is ready to feed or powder. According to Aetna InteliHealth, the cost of using ready to feed formulas is about $4000 a year, not including accessories such as bottles. The cost of using powder is about 1500 a year.
Well I decided to keep track on my formula expenses to see how much I would save by using coupons and stockpiling.
Last week I posted about cheap Similac ready to feed for this week sales in Rite Aid. It is 2 for $10. I know I'm not due for another 3 months but with coupons I will end up paying each ready to feed bottle for $2 each(reg. price 6.29). So I decided to order 60 coupons in Ebay! I was not worried if there is not enought stock in one store since there are about 5 Rite Aids within 3 miles.
I paid $12.39 for 60 coupons of $2 off any similac (.20 cents each coupon). Well guess what? Out of 5 store only one has them and they only have 2 bottles left.
Spent for coupons : $12.39 (and I have not even bought one)
