Creative Galaxy is a make-along, create-along, interactive art adventure series for preschoolers. Produced by Out of the Blue Enterprises and created by Angela Santomero ( Blue's Clues, Super Why!), it follows boy alien Arty and his companion, Epiphany as they travel the galaxy, solving problems they come across using art.
As an artist myself, I am elated that there is a show focused on arts and craft for preschooler and above. I have always believed that art and creative thinking in general nurtures values such as resourcefulness and problem solving skills, not to mention learning sizes, shapes and colors, which are crucial to children's development.
The show normally starts off with Arty and Epiphany encountering a problem with their every day activities. After deciding that they can solve the problem and "fix it with art", they blast off in their rocket ship in pursuit of answers in the creative galaxy. Along the way they encounter household and common materials (such as candles and ribbons), which Arty put's away in his "idea box" that he uses in his art and craft projects down the road. Arty and Epiphany visits different art and craft "planets" where he proceeds to make his art projects, (for example, making paper mache with Captain Paper in Paper planet), which he then uses to help solve the problem and save the day.
Afterwards, (and my favorite part), a live-action piece is shown at the end of each animated episode that shows you, step by step, how to simulate the projects that Arty and Epiphany made in the show. I like the part that materials required for the projects are easy to get and aside from items that can be easily acquired by a quick trip to an art and crafts store, most of them are common household items, which also teaches kids the value of recycling materials and looking at everyday items differently and from an artistic standpoint. Just make sure you have some paper towels and maybe an apron nearby, as messes are part of the fun!
All of my three girls love to watch the show, and this is what they think of it:
" I love the show because I like to create stuff." - Olivia, 7 years old
" I like doing art so I really love the show!" - Emma, 5 years old
" I like the alien!" - Sophia, 3 years old
Creative Galaxy is a wonderful show that encourages children's creativity, resourcefulness and problem solving abilities. Teaching young artist's shapes and colors while the show's live action pieces will get your kids inspired to make their own little art and crafts projects.
Inspired by the show, we made our very own project: paper mache goodie bags that we're going to use for trick or treating this coming Halloween. Check out the pictures below:

ReplyDeleteCute. I remember making these paper mache carriers out of balloons when I was a kid. This would be great to do with my kids. Thanks for the introduction to Amazon studios.
